Words Fell Out: The Power of Unfiltered Expression

For those of you who know me or have taken class with me you know that I am prone to saying things out loud that somehow bypass the normal filters. Words just seem to tumble out, unbidden and unrestrained. Sometimes funny or profound; other times inappropriate and irreverent. It's in these raw, unedited streams that I have often found the essence of my own thoughts or discovered the more truthful version of my feelings. Today’s blogpost is dedicated to the reasons and importance of those moments when words fell out.
We've all experienced it. A conversation where suddenly, we're not thinking before we speak. The words pour out in a torrent, bypassing the usual filters. This might happen during a heated debate, a heartfelt confession, or even a spontaneous outburst of joy. In these instances, our words become a direct reflection of our inner world, free from the constraints of social norms and expectations.
Embracing the fall of words requires a certain level of comfort with vulnerability. It means allowing ourselves to be seen in our most unguarded state. For many, this is a daunting prospect. We're taught to present a polished version of ourselves to the world, to control our narrative carefully. But what if we let go? What if we allowed ourselves the freedom to speak and write without fear of judgment? The results might surprise us. We might discover a voice that is more resonant and more relatable.
Of course, there's a balance to be struck. Not all situations call for unfiltered expression. There are times when thoughtfulness and restraint are necessary. But recognizing when to let words fall out and when to hold them back is a skill worth cultivating.
The next time you feel words bubbling up, ready to spill out, consider letting them. Embrace the messiness of unfiltered expression. You might just find that in those moments, when words fell out, you uncover a deeper truth and a more authentic voice. And whether you're writing, speaking, or simply thinking, there's immense power in letting the words fall out.
